Yuichi Ozawa is a partner and the representative of the firm. Mr. Ozawa’s practice focuses on general corporate, litigation and arbitration, and white-collar criminal cases.

Mr. Ozawa has in recent years successfully acted as defense counsel for a former president of a major Japanese financial institution in a widely covered case against his client, both criminal and civil, arising from the bankruptcy of the institution in the period of the bursting of the “bubble economy” in Japan. He has also represented a leading Japanese pharmaceutical company in a series of complex product liability suits. Mr. Ozawa represented clients in a number of corporate litigation cases in which the validity of board decisions and other corporate actions was disputed.

He regularly advises companies in such areas as international trade, pharmaceuticals, medical services, and academic institutions. Mr. Ozawa serves as a member of the audit and supervisory board of several Japanese companies and as a board member of a medical college.

Mr. Ozawa has taught at the Legal Training and Research Institute of the Supreme Court as an instructor in civil practice. He has also served as an examiner in commercial law at the National Bar Examination Commission. Mr. Ozawa has published a number of articles in the areas of civil and commercial laws.

Mr. Ozawa was admitted to the Bar of Japan in 1969. He joined Ishii Law Office in 1969 and became a partner in 1979. He received an LL.B. degree from the The University of Tokyo in 1967. He also pursued graduate legal studies at Michigan Law School. Mr. Ozawa is a member of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association and the Japan Federation of Bar Associations. He speaks Japanese and English.
