Shuhei Sakurai is a partner of the firm. Mr. Sakurai’s practice focuses on general corporate, finance and banking, litigation and arbitration, competition law, and intellectual property.

Mr. Sakurai has represented a major Japanese food company and a leading Japanese cosmetics company in a number of precedent-setting lawsuits in the competition law area. Mr. Sakurai has also acted as counsel in large damages actions against the former executive officers of several major companies which failed as a result of illegal or improper management by the officers. He also represented plaintiffs in a large damages action arising from a fire accident in a famous Japanese-style hotel.

He regularly advises corporate or institutional clients in such industry sectors as banking and financial services, international trade, cosmetics, newspaper publishing, and consumers’ cooperatives. Mr. Sakurai serves as a member of the audit and supervisory board of several Japanese companies and as a board or committee member of several public interest associations.

Mr. Sakurai has published a number of articles in the areas of civil law and competition law.

Mr. Sakurai was admitted to the Bar of Japan in 1972. He joined Ishii Law Office in 1972 and became a partner in 1982. He received an LL.M. degree from the U.C. Berkeley Law School in 1977 and an LL.B. degree from The University of Tokyo in 1970. Mr. Sakurai is a member of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association and the Japan Federation of Bar Associations. He speaks Japanese and English.
