Rieko Sato


Rieko Sato is a partner of the firm. Ms. Sato’s practice focuses on general corporate, litigation and arbitration, rehabilitation and bankruptcy, M&A, and intellectual property.

Ms. Sato has acted as either an attorney for the applicant, the trustee in bankruptcy, or the supervisor in a number of corporate rehabilitation and bankruptcy cases. She has represented companies in various industry sectors in a number of labor law-related lawsuits and other dispute resolution proceedings. Ms. Sato has also represented a leading Japanese cosmetics company in complex lawsuits in the competition law area.

She regularly advises corporate clients in a variety of industry sectors, including construction, real estate, broadcasting, manufacturing, as well as local governments and academic institutions, in such areas as PFI projects, securitization of real estate, M&A, and corporate governance. Ms. Sato serves as a member of the audit and supervisory board of several leading Japanese companies.

Ms. Sato has published a number of articles in the area of rehabilitation and bankruptcy law. Ms. Sato serves as a member of the Central Council on Construction Contracting Business of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and also as a board member or committee member of several administrative agencies of local governments.

Ms. Sato was admitted to the Bar of Japan in 1984. She joined Ishii Law Office in 1984 and became a partner in 1996. She received an LL.M. degree from University of Illinois Law School in 1989 and an LL.B. degree from The University of Tokyo in 1981. She worked at Sherman & Sterling in New York City from 1989 to 1990. Ms. Sato is a member of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association and the Japan Federation of Bar Associations. She speaks Japanese and English.
